Who ate all the broadband pies?
Woo hoo!!
I have recently upgraded to the UK Online 22Mbit broadband package and I am very happy. When I signed up it said that I would probably "only" get 17Mbit which is about what I have got. A quick test this morning had me downloading from the uk mirror service at 1.7MB/s - O.M.G! The increase in upload speed to nearly 800k is welcome as well, even if it does seem a bit disproportionate.
Anyway, I had to buy a router from them in order that it would be compatible. It was a Netgear DG834GT and when it arrived I was quite happy. The features offered in terms of configurability were great compared to my last router (which I got for free from UK Online). The only problem was that it was horribly slow - I was getting better speeds using my old 8Mbit router than with this one, which is supposedly good up to 24Mbit. I was not impressed. In the end, after trying everything I could think of, I found the following page:
http://www.cifi.com/computing/files.html
where they have the latest official firmware for the router (already installed when I got the router) AND a v1.01.30 firmware that's not listed on the netgear site ANYWHERE. After installing the new firmware everything was working perfectly - all my settings had been kept so I was straight on the internet at full speed.
So.... now my broadband isn't just broad - it's positively obese. Who ate all the broadband pies? I DID!
