Group BBQ
To Sophie Teresa Wengler, born July 27, and to her proud parents, Thorsten and Jo.
To Yvonne Peters for being awarded an International Fellowship at Fermilab. This allows her to stay as Dzero Top Group Convener at Fermilab for another year. She will continue to be an STFC fellow with Manchester.
The Group BBQ on July 10 in Tatton Park was great fun thanks to Un-Ki and Anne who had organised the event. The food was Korean-British fusion (grilled pork and burgers). We have started a new tradition here and should repeat this event next year. Photo: Clara Nellist.
Congratulations
ICHEP 2010 Paris
The ICHEP conference is the most important conference in particle physics and takes place every two years. This time it was held in Paris between July 22-28, and was attended by about 1100 participants. The conference was opened by President Sarkozy. Highlights were the first LHC data and the improved Higgs exclusion by the Tevatron. Terry Wyatt (Z production) and Krisztian Peters (Higgs in di-photons) gave talks in the parallel sessions, representing Manchester. There was lots of media coverage, some of it can be found on our new media page. Unfortunately, our bid for holding ICHEP in 2014 was not successful and we lost to Valencia, Spain (more sun..). Directly after ICHEP, there is a Higgs Workshop in Paris, where Tammy and Un-Ki will give talks, and a Dzero Workshop in Marseille.
