Tau 2010
John Beddow (Dzero), David Brett (Accel), Alessandro Fregoso (theory), Jonathan Harrison (LHCb) , Kiran Joshi (ATLAS), Joel Klinger (ATLAS), Anna Kolano (Accel), Tom Neep (ATLAS), Nick Shipman (Accel), Lee Tomlinson (ATLAS/Dzero), Kiyotaka Yamazaki (NEMO), Pei Zhang (accel), Tianqi Zhao (Dzero).
The Tau 2010 conference (13-17 September) was a big success with nearly 100 international participants who gave a wide range of talks on tau lepton related physics with contributions from theory and from experiments such as BaBar, Belle, ATLAS, CMS and Dzero. The delegates were impressed by the social programme which included a Dinner in the MOSI and a trip to Chatsworth. Proceedings will be published in Nuclear Physics B. Photo: Sam Tygier.
New Students
Submissions
Congratulations to a large number of students who submitted or graduated this month.
Robert Murphy has been awarded his MSc. Lisa Alexander-Nunneley, Graham Jackson, Chris Jackson, Jenna Lane and Wan-Ching (Tammy) Yang have submitted their thesis and Tammy passed her viva on September 29.
Leaving
Several of our colleagues, Scott Kolya, Paul Miyagawa and Krisztian Peters, left the Particle Physics Groups at the end of September. Scott, Paul and Krisztian have all been members of the Group for a long time during which they have made important contributions to our research programme. We wish them good luck for their future career.

Science is Vital:
Science is Vital is a group of concerned scientists, engineers and supporters of science who are campaigning to prevent destructive levels of cuts to science funding in the UK. There will be a demo in London on October 9th (next Saturday). For more information, visit Science is Vital.
Christmas Meeting
This year's Christmas Meeting will be held December 20/21 and the Group's Christmas Party will be on December 20 at Bem Brasil Churrascaria (students £25 and staff £40) Thanks to Anne Morrow and Peter Millington for organising the Party. More details will be made available closer to Christmas.
